Ahmed Shahzad-Tillakaratne Dilshan112KARACHI, September 4: Pakistan on Thursday said it has set up a committee to look into a religious spat between their opener Ahmed Shahzad and Sri Lankan counterpart Tillakaratne Dilshan last month. Television footage showed Shahzad passing a religious remark at Dilshan after the third and final one-day international in Dambulla last week.
After Sri Lanka notched a seven-wicket win to take the series 2-1 and the players were walking off the field, Shahzad can be heard on camera saying to Dilshan: “If you are a non-Muslim and you turn Muslim, no matter whatever you do in your life, straight to heaven.”
Dilshan replied he doesn’t want to go there, to which Shahzad replied: “Then be ready for the fire.” The remarks stemmed from reports that 37-year-old Dilshan was born to a Muslim father and a Buddhist mother and was originally named Tuwan Mohamed Dilshan. But once his parents separated he changed his religion and name to Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan as a Buddhist.
The footage went viral on the Internet, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to summon Shahzad on Wednesday. A PCB spokesman said the matter will be investigated by an internal committee headed by director of international cricket Zakir Khan.
“We have formed an internal committee under Zakir and have also written to Sri Lanka Cricket whether they have any complaint,” said spokesman Agha Akbar. Pakistan team manager Moin Khan said no official complaint was lodged after the match. “It happened on the last day of the tour but there as no official complaint by match officials or Sri Lankan players so I think it must be a general thing,” said Moin.
Indiavs Pakistan
The  ICC World T20 2014 will begin with high intense match between traditional rivals India and Pakistan. Both the teams met last time in Asia Cup where Pakistan defeated India in last over. Now this time India will look for revenge. But recent performance of team India is a major concern. Still there are some loopholes which can lead India towards defeat. Here we present 5 weak points of team India that can be hurdle between India and victory.
Opening pair
Rohit Sharma
A good start is a big plus in this T20 format. But India’s opener Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are not hitting their best for team. In Asia Cup both could not make more than 50 runs partnership. However, both came up with good figures in different matches but together in a same match they didn’t perform. India is missing a stable start so that it will reduce the pressure on middle order.
In-experience pacers
Shammi
India will likely to get into the match with Mohammed Shami and Varun Aaron. Although, Shami has played many matches and shown his calibre but still both the bowlers are in-experience in this format as compared to Pakistani fast bowlers. Death over plays crucial role in this format and Indian pacers will have to do their job adequately.
Spin department
R Ashwin
Pakistan have Saeed Ajmal who is in exceptional form but Indian off-spinner Ravichandra Ashwin is searching for rhythm. However, R Ashwin took nine wickets in four matches but before that against South Africa and New Zealand he played five matches and could take just one wicket. Leg spinner Amit Mishra played single match in Asia Cup but he looked decent. Ravindra Jadeja is looking in good form with the ball. While Pakistan has some wicket-taking spin bowlers but Indian spin department will have to work a lot.
Playing against Saeed Ajmal
Saeed Ajmal
Tackling mysterious spinner Saeed Ajmal is still the most major concern for Indian batting line up. Saeed Ajmal will be the best weapon used by Pakistan in the match. Ajmal’s performance especially against India is superb. In last match of Asia Cup, Ajmal took three wickets in his two overs while bowling the death overs. Ajmal’s different angles and position of his hands from where he releases the ball confuse the batsmen. Indian batsmen will have to decode his tricks.
Shahid Afridi blistering knocks
Indiavs Pakistan
Whether with the bat or ball, all rounder Shahid Afridi always stand between India and victory. His last innings in which he snatched the win from India in last over shows Indian bowlers will have to make perfect strategy to stop this storm. Apart from batting, he is one of the fastest leg spinners in the world and can change the game by ball too. India lacking in having such kind of all rounder in their team and plus they will have to prevent this player to perform.
Karachi, Sep 17: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will use all modern methods including a functional biomechanics laboratory to stamp out the menace of bowlers with illegal bowling actions in domestic cricket. Former captain Intikhab Alam who heads the PCB’s domestic cricket operations told PTI today that they were also plans to have the suspended Saeed Ajmal take biomechanic tests with a correct bowling action before the World Cup.
“What we are facing in Pakistan is a menace as far as bowlers with illegal bowling actions are concerned. The illegal bowling action committee has already identified 35 to 40 such bowlers and we are also taking the problem of ball tampering very seriously. The committee has issued strict instructions to all umpires and match officials in domestic cricket to report any bowler with a hint of bowling action problems while anyone found tampering with the ball will be barred from the game,” Alam said.
He pointed out that the problem of bowlers with illegal bowling actions which had been highlighted more so after the suspension of Saeed Ajmal was a worldwide problem and not restricted to Pakistan.
“In Sri Lanka, they set up a committee and they found around 18 bowlers with problems,” he said. Alam appreciated the International Cricket Council (ICC) changing its protocol to deal with bowlers with illegal actions.
“It is a good thing generally because nowadays this problem is cropping up more because off-spinners are using mostly chest on actions and not side on actions. The bowler who has a side on action and his feet pivots properly on landing will never face such problems.”
Alam said most young bowlers had modeled themselves on the modern day greats like Muralitharan, Ajmal or Narine and were facing problems.
“Besides setting up the biomechanics lab at the national cricket academy in Lahore with 22 high speed cameras and related software we are also planning to import a software from Australia which can be used to detect bowlers who break the 15 degree elbow extension limit allowed by the ICC. The software includes using a wrist scanner on the bowler and computer software and cameras,” Alam said.
Alam said that Ajmal’s suspension was a big blow to Pakistan cricket before the World Cup. ”But the board is trying to facilitate him in every way. Because we want him to take a biomechanics test with the ICC before the World Cup,” he added.
